Wire the ceiling rose and switches yourself, using correctly coloured cores: brown line, blue neutral, and the circuit protective conductor (CPC) sleeved green/yellow. Check your work and every mistake is explained. Choose a supply at the ceiling rose or a powered switch (supply at the switch), with one or several lamps. When it is right, operate the switches and watch the bulbs light up.

Lighting arrangement

Supply enters the ceiling rose; a T&E switch drop carries permanent and switched line. One lamp is controlled by the switches.

Training only — no real power. “Powered switch” here means the circuit supply enters the switch box, not a smart or electronic switch. All lamps in each exercise switch together in parallel. Neutral joints are separate connectors, not ordinary switch contacts; intermediate terminal pairings vary by maker. CPC connections assume Class I fittings. Always safely isolate and prove dead before working, and test and certify to BS 7671. Lighting and switching work in your home may need to be notified under Part P.
